RELAXATION/SWEDISH MASSAGE
As the best known type of body work performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the whole body. Although this type of massage uses firm but gentle pressure along with soothing techniques to promote relaxation there are many health benefits to a Swedish massage and it is effective in relieving the signs of stress, anxiety and depression, it also reduces muscle tension, improves blood circulation, soothes the nervous system, relieves aches & pains & increases mobility all of which brings about a sense of total relaxation. And because of this it has long been suggested as an ideal partner in stress management programs. A swedish massage incorporates long gliding strokes called effleurage, along with other classic Swedish massage strokes including kneading, friction, stretching and sometimes tapping, all of these techniques help to stretch the muscles, ligaments and tendons thereby keeping them supple. |
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
This energising massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the deeper lying muscles, connective tissue or fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles) and is usually more focussed on specific areas of pain and tension. It will incorporate a number of techniques such as soft tissue, myofascial release & trigger point therapy. It is great for releasing muscle tension and generally restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system & is also very effective in breaking down scar tissues and eliminating chronic patterns of tension through the body. REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial massage is a deep massage that manipulates the soft tissues of the body for a specific therapeutic effect. Soft tissue tension affects the normal position of the joints and associated nerve tissue, therefore it is often involved in movement imbalances, postural dysfunctions and is almost always a contributing factor in musculoskeletal pain. A sports massage treatment which has been specifically designed with your needs in mind, promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares your body and mind for optimal performance. Managing the soft tissues of the body through massage coupled with a stretching programme will keep your muscles, tendons and ligaments in good shape and assist with any rehabilitation programs. Before we begin your treatment we’ll discuss your pregnancy and how it’s been affecting your body so that we can develop an effective treatment plan specifically tailored to your needs. Your safety and comfort throughout the massage is essential, which is why we favour a side lying position on the massage table, with all areas of your body well supported with pillows ensuring that your are totally relaxed during your treatment. All techniques and the pressure used throughout the treatment are tailored for a mum to be and as such deep pressure and trigger point work cannot be used.
